I agree that 3D Coat + iClone + Blender + Unity makes for a really great combo with respect to content creation for games / movies. **** Bit Off Topic - more related to testing out iclone as a viable option **** I guess that there is nothing left to do but use one of my tests and hope that my results go the same as what you have experienced. I am keen to get into iclone and xChange however, I was expecting to see the same results in both 3DXchange and iClone so this bug has thrown me a little. As the demo of the xchange software only provides 15 attempts, I didn't want to waste one only to find that there is a critical setting missing. I will attach images from Blender and 3DXchange to show what I mean. sort of works yet it's either smoothing groups are not showing up or there is extra detail such as the ridges and lines I see in Blender. The approach applying normals to the bump in iClone - exporting the material file - loading it to your mesh in 3DXchange. If I am able to obtain clarity on this matter that would be appreciated greatly. I don't see where in iClone I am meant to be applying the normal map as it only seems to have a Bump and a Diffuse.ī.) I read that Bump is allegedly considered different to a Normal map in the iClone/3DXchange software. However I have no idea the correct procedure I am meant to take for applying the Normal map as I read some places telling me -Ī.) Go into iClone and make a sphere then apply the texture to the diffuse and then apply your normal map and save out the material to use inside of 3DXchange. I am able to correctly assign the Texture map without a problem and it also isolates the alpha channel from this so that's all great. So I follow the export guide to get my FBX character all rigged and animated out of Blender and into the 3DXchange - it has the 3D Coat generated Tex Map and Normal Map as png files.Ĥ. I am unable to locate a specific diagram or tutorial that clearly describes how to rig a character in Blender for compatibility with iClone. I fire up Blender and have boned/rigged my character and it animates great and all bones are compatible with the new Unity Mecanim system so I noted that iClone also appears to have this same compatibility which is why I am of the impression that my character's bone rig shouldn't be a problem.Ģ. When I went over the forums here and all the youtube videos that had related search terms, nothing appeared to assist with this specific work flow which is unusual being how powerful 3D Coat is for generating quality Meshes.ġ. I create my character inside of 3D Coat and export it out with the Texture Map (Diffuse Map) and the Normal Map (sometimes referred to as a Bump Map).
